Harmonica basics workshop with allie jean burbrink

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for this Beginner’s Workshop on Harmonica Basics with Allie Jean Burbrink! Workshop cost is $25 for the hour-long workshop. Participants must also have their own Key of C Diatonic Harmonica for this Workshop. The tiny and portable harmonica has been a staple of folk, country, blues, and rock music for over a century and we’re excited to help you get started playing! Allie will be here to teach you everything you need to know to get started including the basics of the instrument, fundamentals of accompaniment for multi-instrumentalists, breath support, and developing tricks and techniques to get clear and crisp notes from your harmonica.

 

Bluegrass & Old-Time Jamming Workshop

Friday, May 16th 2023 5:30pm–6:30pm ET

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for this Bluegrass and Old Time Jamming Workshop taught by Allie Jean Burbrink that will help you improve your skills at playing with other musicians! All bluegrass instruments are welcome and no jamming experience is necessary! Participants should be able to tune their instrument (electronic tuning devices are welcome) and change smoothly between G, C, D, and A. (Fiddles and Basses should know which notes work with which chords). Workshop cost is $25 and participants should bring their own bluegrass/old time instrument to play! Sing & Play Family Jam with allie Jean Burbrink

Saturday, April 8th 2023 5:30pm–6:30pm ET

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for this FUN KID-FOCUSED WORKSHOP! Allie Jean Burbrink will be joining us to share some simple chords, songs, and techniques for sharing music with your own little one. Using just 3-4 simple chords, parents can start singing, playing, and teaching their kiddos to sing and play along with them. This workshop is great for parents and young children aged 2 to 7 years - younger participants will have a variety of percussion instruments and will enjoy moving to the music while older kids will get to learn to play some songs, too! Participating parents will receive a copy of a variety of songs from Allie’s SING & PLAY ALL DAY KID’S SONGBOOK AND COLORING BOOK and we will all have fun singing and playing music together!

WORKSHOP COST IS $25/ADULT. Bring your own instrument OR Borrow one from the shop for an additional $5. Workshop is FREE FOR KIDS 12 AND UNDER with adult supervision (1 adult per 2 children, please). Parent participants will receive a copy of a variety of songs from Allie’s SING & PLAY ALL DAY KID’S SONGBOOK AND COLORING BOOK!

Allie Jean is a musician, teacher, and mom. Her first solo record, a folk/children’s album called SING & PLAY ALL DAY, will be out in March! Whether performing, teaching, or playing with her son, Allie is enthusiastic and encouraging. She believes making music is something everyone can learn to do!

 

Fiddle Foundations workshop for intermediate-level beginners

Participants should be comfortable with playing the G, D, and A Major Scales in order to attend this workshop. Any past participants of our Complete Beginner’s Violin & Fiddle Workshop are welcome to attend! In this workshop, you will learn techniques to improve your playing, bowing exercises for fiddlers, intros and outros for common fiddle tunes, learning double-stops, and hints on how to practice! We will even have you playing a beginner fiddle tune by the end of the workshop!

Classically trained violinist, Carolyn Dutton, has spent over 30 years playing violin and fiddle in a variety of genres including classical, celtic, gypsy, jazz, folk, bluegrass, old time, and more. In addition to touring internationally, she also performed as the on-stage violinist in the Tony-award winning Grapes of Wrath. Carolyn enjoys teaching violin and fiddle in every style possible and playing regularly with her western swing and jazz groups here in Brown County, Indiana.

Rhythm Guitar workshop for bluegrass & Old Time Music

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for this great introduction to playing Rhythm Guitar for Bluegrass and Old Time Music taught by Allie Jean Burbrink of Columbus, Indiana. At this workshop, Allie will help you learn the basics of back-up rhythm guitar including the commonly used alternating bass/chord rhythm, some embellishments and bass walks to spice up your playing, and some tips and techniques to get you ready to join in on any jam session or picking situation in no time!

Introduction to world percussion

Join us for our Introduction to World Percussion and Rhythm Workshop with Julian Douglas! Julian brings more than 25 years of experience playing and teaching world percussion. He is a Remo Health Rhythms trained facilitator and a recipient of the Indiana Arts Commission On-Ramp Fellowship. Julian’s influences include traditions from the African diaspora, Asia, and the Middle East. His approach to music centers on the creative process and authentic expression.

At this Introduction to World Percussion and Rhythm Workshop, Julian will be providing an information on traditional vocabulary, instrumental technique, the theory of rhythm, and helping students learn how to express themselves through world percussion instruments. Whether the goal is to enhance your rhythmic skills and vocabulary or to take up or deepen a personal creative practice, there will be something for everyone in the workshop.

Introduction to Violin and Fiddle Workshop for Adult Beginners

Saturday January 21, 4:30–5:30

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for an Introduction to Violin and Fiddle Workshop for Adult Beginners with instructor Audrey Jo Williams!!

Audrey Jo Williams is a professional musician who began her studies on double bass, cello, and violin and has over 10 years of experience teaching students of all skill levels, from adults to high school students to young children just starting out. Her students have won and placed in national competitions, gotten into the prestigious IU String Academy at the Jacobs School of Music as well as gotten into the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra. Audrey has taught strings at a variety of Elementary and Intermediate Schools and has performed as Principal Bassist in the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra.

This Introduction to Violin and Fiddle Workshop is intended for adult beginners. No experience is necessary, though this workshop will be good for complete beginners through early violin students. This workshop will focus on many beginner concepts including instrument care and maintenance, how to hold the instrument (bow and violin), tuning, proper use of your right hand (and how to use the bow), and the basics of beginning to use your left hand by learning some basic techniques and scales. This workshop will include techniques that can apply for both beginner violin and fiddle students.

Brown county ukulele festival

The Brown County Ukulele Festival is here...and we are so excited! Can't wait to see some happy, smiling, familiar faces this weekend! To celebrate, we will be holding a drawing for two FREE Kala Ukuleles Elvis Ukes on Saturday evening! Any purchase on Friday, January 20th or Saturday, January 21st enters you to win! Two winners will be drawn on Saturday at 6:30pm from our booth at the Brown County Ukulele Festival at the Brown County Inn ! Holiday caroling with Weed patch & friends

Join the jolly little Weed Patch elves as we gather our instruments and take to the town for some festive holiday caroling! Meet us at 3pm at Weed Patch Music Company to jam and learn some songs together, then we'll head out into the town at 4pm to sing some carols to our friends at the other local businesses! Join us at Weed Patch Music Company on Friday, October 28th for a Luthier Discussion, Demonstration, and Beginner's Native American Flute Workshop with Douglas Thunder Horse of Thunder Horse Flutes! Douglas will be discussing and demonstrating a variety of his flutes at our shop from 4pm to 5:30pm with a Beginner's Flute Workshop to follow from 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

Douglas Thunder Horse is a multi–national award-winning performer, recording artist, and flute builder. As an adopted Apache, he learned his craft from an elder who taught flute making. Each instrument that Douglas makes has been handcrafted and inspired by the flutes of the First People, bringing to life the spirit of the wood. Douglas spends his days' building, recording, and teaching at his studio in Greensburg, Indiana.

Come and meet David Underwood, the luthier behind our wonderful Fauz Instruments Cajons! David will be bringing lots of great cajons for you to choose from and our very own house percussionist, Sydney, will be here to lure you in with some lessons and techniques for how to play the cajon. We'll have several sizes of cajons available for you to try, you can participate in some percussion lessons and demos with Sydney, and find out about how these instruments are made!

Check out some great music that will be brought to you by Dwayne Dopsie and other fabulous Zydeco musicians at Bill Monroe's Music Park & Campground! You can find our booth there and join us in some workshops to learn the Musical Washboard, Spoons, and other Zydeco Style Percussion Instruments with the always fun Bill Bailey! Bring a friend and grab your dancin' shoes and we'll see you there for some fun! You can find us there all day Saturday selling all of your favorite Zydeco style percussion instruments and teaching workshops on how to play Washboard, Spoons, and other fun instruments!

Join us on Friday, May 27th during Brown County's Fourth Friday Art Walk for our "Meet the Luthier Series"! Alan Brittingham of Seymour, Indiana makes some incredible guitars, dulcimers, pickin' sticks, cigar box guitars, and more! He'll be here showcasing some of these beautiful instruments for you and giving you an up close look at his craftsmanship that is truly a work of art! And, you can grab a cold brew or iced latte from the Sidetrack Coffee Roasters coffee cart out in front of our shop and stay and hang out awhile.

APRIL TO OCTOBER - 4TH FRIDAY ART WALKS

We are very excited to be participating in Brown County’s Fourth Friday Art Walks this season! Art Walks in Brown occur every April through October from 4pm to 7pm and include a variety of special exhibits, music, make and take activities, demonstrations, and food and wine! As part of the Art Walk this year, Weed Patch Music Company hopes to be able to highlight the ways in which Indiana musical instrument builders create their art. With over a dozen Indiana instrument builders in a variety of instruments represented in our shop, there is plenty of art to see!

In conjunction with the Art Walk Events this season, we will be featuring different luthiers or local musicians each week! Take the opportunity to meet different instrument builders, check out how musical instruments are made, participate in beginner workshops, listen to some local music, and grab yourself a cup of locally roasted coffee from Sidetrack Coffee at their cart in front of our shop!

Join us at Weed Patch Music Company for a Fingerstyle Ukulele Basics Workshop! In this workshop, we will focus on basic fingerpicking skills that allow us to accentuate the melodic lines of a song rather than just strumming our chords. We will be focusing on 4 different styles fingerpicking for the ukulele and utilizing 4 unique songs for our practice! If you are a beginner or intermediate ukulele player that is looking to diversify your ukulele style, then this might be the workshop for you!

Our Fingerstyle Ukulele Basics Workshop will be held at our shop on Saturday, March 5th from 5pm to 6pm. The cost for this hour-long workshop is $20 and pre-registration and pre-payment are required. Have you always wanted to increase your comfortability playing with other musicians but don't know where to start? Are you filled with holiday spirit and don't know what to do with it? Then you should join us for our Christmas Music Jam for Beginners! In this hour-long workshop we will help you learn how to improvise along with other musicians without fear and anxiety! Chords, scales, tablature, and licks will be provided for 4 different holiday songs! Beginner-level players of Ukulele, Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, and Dulcimer are invited to attend!
